What to do with the Baffert horses?
1 Citizen Bull and Rodriguez are both trained by Bob Baffert returning after a 2 year suspension. If this race were the year after Medina Spirit, both race horses would be single digits. With that, 1 Citizen Bull will need to gun from the rail and is capable but will be challenged. 4 Rodriguez is ridden by Big Money Mike Smith. who said the horse still had energy as they finished in the Wood. I think 4 Rodriguez is a solid B horse to include in horizontal and vertical wagers while I can live with 1 Citizen bull beating me.
Will there be a speed duel on the front end of the Derby?
Like I said, 1 Citizen Bull, 2 Neoequis, 4 Rodriguez, 5 American Promise, 12 East Avenue, and 20 Owen Almighty seem to need or want the lead, but I think only 4 Rodriguez has the staying power to win. However, I also think 4 Rodriguez will try to sit off the pace since the other Baffert 1 Citizen Bull needs the lead. Baffert will not allow his two horses to burn each other out. And just maybe, 1 Citizen Bull serves as a rabbit for 4 Rodriguez by running all out to try to win (if no one goes with him maybe he wins) but tiring the other speed horses and softening them up for Big Money Mike to run them down the lane with 4 Rodriguez.
